The Spiral Tower, with a low environmental impact, will allow visitors and tourists to discover their cities from above in transparent ascent cabins. Communicated.
Magnicity, the world leader in urban leisure at height, announced in November 2023 its partnership with NothernLight and Groenendijk Engineering for the international development of a leisure tower concept: the “Spiral Tower”.
Magnicity already has four urban observatories in Paris (Observatoire Tour Montparnasse), Berlin (TV Tower), Rotterdam (Eurosmast) and Chicago (360 Chicago). The new concept of ”
Spiral Tower” is designed to be a must-see attraction in every city where it is installed. Indeed, the tower will offer visitors and tourists a wonderful journey in electrically piloted cabins discovering a 360-degree view.
Beyond promoting local heritage allowing every visitor to observe the city from above, this concept that reinvents the famous “big wheels”, carries a responsible vision regarding its environmental and energy impact while integrating into the urban landscape.
An achievement of visual and technical innovation, the Spiral Tower is a modern, responsible attraction adaptable to any space. It is the first high-altitude attraction operating with zero carbon impact, thanks to energy regeneration and autonomous energy production. The tower will be supplied with electricity thanks to solar panels integrated into the base of the structure, which will complement the self-generated energy of each module during its descent phase, making the installation energy self-sufficient.
In addition, the interior of the tower will include a vertical garden, allowing, beyond the aesthetic aspect, the absorption of part of the surrounding pollution of the city.
A unique attraction
The Spiral Tower presents a strong potential for customization, which concerns as much the base as the appearance or operation of the attraction. Designed in four formats ranging from 60 m to over 150 m in height, the Spiral Tower is designed to integrate harmoniously into the urban landscape.
Its light steel structure and ease of installation make it a tower suitable for all types of environments. It can therefore be installed permanently or temporarily. The structure of the Spiral Tower is highly modular and allows for customizations that will make each model unique, depending on the geographic location and expected crowds.
The base of the tower, intended to welcome visitors and which integrates the entrance platform, will be decorated with shops, restaurants, exhibitions or interactive tours.
An international project supported by an expert consortium
The concept was developed by Marc Groenendijkat, Dutch engineering firm KCI, who also worked on the London Eye and the Dubai Wheel, and was presented at EAS in September 2018. KCI partnered with NorthernLight in 2020 to refine the concept and design.
In September 2023, Magnicity bought the concept and the patent and formed a consortium with NorthernLight and Groenendijk Engineering, (founded by Marc Groenendijk) with the aim of developing the Spiral Tower internationally.
