Microsoft will introduce laptops with more than 20 hours of battery life

The American IT giant must announce on Monday the arrival, starting next month, of computers whose autonomy could be up to four times greater than the current ones.

On Monday, May 20 evening, Microsoft has to announce a new generation of laptops. Machines with a completely new autonomy because it could exceed 20 hours. Quite simply, it would be unheard of. If you have a laptop, you probably know that their battery life is about three or four hours (five or six, at best). So, there is still talk of tripling, even quadrupling the current autonomy.

How is it possible? Relying on the technologies that currently power cell phones. Because as much as we complain about the battery life of our phones, they still manage to last, more or less, the day. Hence the idea of designing computers that use the same chips so that they consume much less energy. Which allows them to run for over 20 hours on battery power alone. All this, thanks to a simple change of microprocessor.

The good news is that we won’t notice anything. Windows has been updated to make applications believe that nothing has changed. At worst, there could be some slowdowns, but all programs should run smoothly. In fact, Windows computers are currently undergoing the same transformation as Macs were almost four years ago. Apple also abandoned Intel chips for M1, M2 and M3 processors derived from those in its iPhone. This is how the MacBooks found a new lease of life, how they became more powerful with better battery life. The same recipe is now used by Microsoft and PC manufacturers. You may remember the ad “Intel Inside“. From now on we will promote the “Snapdragon Inside“. The SnapDragon being the best-selling chip in mobile phones.

These machines arrive from June 2024. The announcements will take place during two events organized by Microsoft in the United States. The first, on Monday evening, dedicated to computers of the Surface range. And the second, on Tuesday evening, during the Construction conference. It will discuss the new features expected in Windows in the coming months. Obviously there will be a lot of talk about the integration of artificial intelligence. We will take stock on Wednesday morning.
