In Madrid, a dilapidated house was transformed into an ultra-bright loft

In Madrid, an old house renovated into a contemporary loft

When a pair of architects undertake a renovation together, there are two things: either the result will be extraordinary, or it will be their last joint project (or even their last project together altogether). If we add to the equation two other people, in this case their children – also architects – and the fact that the house in question was “cave” (in his own words) dark and scattered, with barely 60 m2 of floor space, the risks multiply exponentially.

In the case that concerns us, very fortunately, all ends well, and a conclusion is necessary: “A family that renews together, stays together. » The family is that of architects Rubén Picado and María José de Blas, founders of the company Picado de Blas, who designed an independent house in the Arturo Soria neighborhood for their children, Mateo and Candela, in Madrid.

The furniture of the living room, designed by the architects, allows to modify the arrangement of the room according to its use.

Little light and little space

As we have already mentioned, the main disadvantages of this house were its lack of light and its cramped conditions. But they weren’t the only ones. It also had other problems inherited from its past, such as dampness and mold on the roof, caused by the public terrace located directly above.

Vegetation is present in every corner of the residence.
